The Yoga Forest’s Conscious Living & Learning Center incorporates a balance of teaching, discussion and practice of traditional and modern yoga styles and infuses a shamanic connection to the Earth and her cycles. As yoga is fundamentally an experiential, inner inquiry, students are encouraged both to be aware of checkpoints, and to explore how the practice feels and manifests in their body during any given yoga experience. Beginning with the New Moon, lunar immersion yogis spend a month immersed in all facets of the four traditional paths of yoga: Raja, Bhakti, Jnana, and Karma Yoga. Experience a month of growth and sharing centered around the lunar cycle and in harmony with the Medicine Wheel cycle of the Four Winds.
Permaculture, or Permanent Agriculture, means the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems that have the diversity, stability and resilience of natural ecosystems. It is the harmonious integration of landscape and people, providing their food, energy, shelter, and other material and non-material needs in a sustainable way. We offer two yearly Permaculture Design Certificate Courses (PDC) courses, a 2 week intensive and a 5 week internship program. We run Permaculture Immersion for students to join us for a month period of growth and learning centered around the phases of the moon. We hope to simplify our lives by planning our daily tasks, workshops and classes around a lunar schedule thereby creating a holistic learning experience and environment at The Yoga Forest.

Meet the Yoga Forest Family
Hayley Tennyson, Founder
A devoted yogi, permaculture activist, and idea alchemist, Hayley dreamed up The Yoga Forest in early 2009. Her passion for wellness paired with her vision of sustainable living led to the development of the retreat community and transformational learning centre called The Yoga Forest in San Marcos la Laguna on Lake Atitlán, Guatemala. Permies and yogis come from all over the world, and devote a month to learning and exploring yoga and Permaculture practices. When Hayley gets a break from teaching and overseeing the operations of the retreat community, she loves to sing, dance and create ceremony in every moment as an expression of the heart. She loves to spending time in the forest, contemplating oneness within nature as well reading in her hammock looking out over the mountains to the volcanoes of Lake Atitlán.
Niss Bach, Creative Director
Niss is an artist. He began studying dance in high school and moved into Circus Arts in 2003, where he studied in Israel and Madrid. After 8 years of performing on stage, on the streets and in festivals, he fused his knowledge of movement into the healing arts of Thai Massage and Yoga Therapy.
Niss has many gifts to share: he speaks four languages and is a dynamic problem solver within communities; he offers group forming camps and workshops as well as astrology readings.
Niss is currently practicing a Tibetan practice called Dzogchen or “Great Perfection.” It is the highest and most definitive path to enlightenment.
Pamela Arreaga, Forest Manager
Born and raised in Guatemala City, Pamela relocated to San Marcos la Laguna in 2013, seeking balance and reconnection with nature. Pamela has a background of experience in customer service, quality assurance, organising and managing small projects that involved cultural exchange and traveling around Guatemala.
